Translation Check Lab
It is a practice lab, not a translation service, and it never approves a message.
French prepared with machine assistance; not yet reviewed by a professional translator.
Machine translation can help draft, but a message that affects safety, health or access to aid needs a qualified bilingual person to check it before it is sent.
Part of the Humanitarian AI Training Kit (Session 2)
Scope
SMS is not confidential. Use this lab only for broadcast messages to groups, never for messages about an individual person.
Language variety
French differs across Canada, Europe and West and Central Africa. Arabic ranges from Modern Standard Arabic to local varieties that OPUS-MT may not match. Consider audio or visual channels alongside SMS for people with low literacy.
Privacy
Text is processed locally by this application. When you choose model download, your browser retrieves model files from the listed third-party hosts. Text is not sent to those hosts by this application.
Limitations
OPUS-MT quality varies by language and domain.
Pattern checks are intentionally conservative and produce false positives. They are prompts for human review, not accuracy measurements.
Tatoeba test sentences are short, general-domain sentences, not humanitarian or medical text, so these scores do not transfer to emergency messages.
Examples of false alarms: a correctly translated French word such as "minutes" flagged as untranslated; a capitalised place name such as "Well 12" flagged when only the capital letter changed in back-translation.
Published model quality by language pair
Benchmark scores are quoted exactly from each upstream OPUS-MT model card on Hugging Face. They are not a guarantee for your message.

Back-translation (warning signal only)
Back-translation can hide real errors. It is never proof that a message is safe to send.
What is wrong?
Check my own text
Paste a short source message and its translation.
SMS is not confidential. Use this lab only for broadcast messages to groups, never for messages about an individual person.
Optional: live on-device translation
Download an OPUS-MT model.
Back-translation
Back-translation is a warning signal only, not proof. A matching back-translation can hide a real error in the target language.
Meaning-risk flags
Pattern checks are intentionally conservative and produce false positives. They are prompts for human review, not accuracy measurements.
SMS reality check
Characters outside GSM 03.38 force UCS-2 encoding (70/67 per segment), including typographic apostrophes (for example in French l'eau) and letters such as ê or ô.
