Session 1 speaker notes
Slides 1 to 3 (0:00 to 0:10)
Welcome participants. State that materials are CC BY 4.0 learning resources, not a record of past delivery. Co-host manages chat and timing.
Diagnostic: poll by show of hands or chat. Do not collect identifying data. Note themes for adaptation (fear of data leaks, excitement about drafting, uncertainty on policy).
Slides 4 to 7 (0:10 to 0:25)
Avoid vendor demos. Use plain language. Emphasize that “AI” on a product label does not mean generative.
Accountability slide: ask participants to name a role in their org (program lead, MEAL manager). That person remains accountable.
Protection: link to Fundamental Principles without lengthy history. One concrete example: wrong SMS harms people with mobility needs if accessibility info is wrong.
Slides 8 to 10 (0:25 to 0:45)
Walk through table slowly. Ask participants to suggest marks before you reveal.
Stress: reviewer authority is separate from factual error. Even a factually perfect draft may be red if the reviewer cannot send alerts.
Slides 11 to 13 (0:45 to 1:10)
Distribute worksheet. Groups of 4 to 6. For 15 participants, use 3 groups of 5.
Content warning: case is non-graphic wildfire scenario. Skip graphic cases in this session.
Visit groups briefly. Nudge groups that mark everything green.
Slide 14 to 15 (1:10 to 1:30)
Debrief: 2 minutes per group max. Use answer key for corrections.
Close with action plans. Mention optional between-session practice.
Common facilitator mistakes
- Spending too long on technology hype
- Letting groups skip the source table
- Forgetting to name manual fallback (established alert process)
